But it wasn’t always like this. When founder Teresa Heath-Wareing found herself struggling to land work as a single mom to a four-year-old she knew she needed to make a change. With a degree in marketing and several years of experience as head of marketing for a local agency, she knew that marketing would be at the heart of what she did next. And so she launched a marketing business. New to entrepreneurship, she initially found herself making the kinds of rookie mistakes many new business owners make such as not having a plan and not knowing what her offer was. But she learnt as she went, hired a business coach to guide her, worked on her mindset and soon she had built a 6-figure business.
Teresa says: “Having my own business is the best thing I have ever done. I get to manage my time and what I do with it and who I work with. I worked in many male-dominated industries before starting my own business and the way I was treated as a woman was very much different to the other men I worked with. I was not as well regarded or thought to be as capable and in some cases was often there for show. Now I have my own business I feel like I am in control of me, my business and how I am treated on a daily basis!”
Today Teresa is an international award winning speaker and TEDx speaker, she is the host of the Your Dream Business Podcast and has interviewed the likes of Amy Porterfield, Pat Flynn, Michael Hyatt, Jasmine Star, Stu McLaren, Mike Stelzner and Dean Graziosi.
Teresa has told more of her company’s story in the recently published multi-author book, “Creating Success: Changemakers Share Wisdom On Achieving Success On Your Own Terms” where she is a one of 12 leading entrepreneurs to have shared her personal journey and wisdom on redefining what success truly means. The book hit number 1 bestseller status internationally.
She says: “I’ve learnt so much on my business journey. From the importance of learning systems, finance, managing people or selling, alongside actually serving my clients, to the fact that often as your business progresses, you’ll lose friends along the way who no longer have things in common with you. And the fact that when you have your own business, you never really switch off – I find myself thinking about my business in the shower, falling asleep, cooking dinner, on the school run, doing the food shopping – I have to make a point of giving myself some downtime!”
She also believes that a strong mindset is imperative when it comes to running a business, and says having tactics and strategies for your mind is key. “As part of this I believe it’s important to learn to embrace failing – my resilience has gotten better as time has gone on.
